Tell ya Tony, I have found it best to let windows do it's thing...Just scan disc and defrag on a regular basis and you won't run into any problems...I have 512mb's and could never tell the difference...I went back to letting windows be the judge..Never been sorry..One less thing to worry about..If in doubt, add more ram, it's some what cheap now...MHO...Regards...Hal

Hi Tony--This was driving me nuts for a long time and I agree with Hal-- with your Ram you will never notice the diff... The latest PC World Mag says.. "Let me set my own and suggested 384 max and 384 meg min-- I tried same for a while back-- no diff even with huge games--went back to " Let windows look after it" and you won't go wrong... GL

Try this site:

www.infinisource.com/techfiles/win-resources.html

It explains to you why you cant increase resources with more Ram or any other alterations. You didnt say why you wanted to change your virtual MEM. MS recommends that windows manage.

if you edit large audio, video, or image files.
you might want to keep it like that.
or even get more RAM.

I've used up 640mb of RAM and a over 800mb swap file in use editing/correcting old pictures I scanned in at a very high dpi.

try different things, push that computer to it's limits.

I've let Cacheman take the bother out of all that, you can follow the wizard, set the recomended settings, and forget.
Great tool, works for me. Jim

I used cacheman and used to have fixed size VM.
I have 128 Mb RAM.

I found the best settings
are Windows default.
