To set the virual memory yourself, rather than allow windows to do it, right click the My Computer Icon on your desktop, select properties. When the Properties box appears, go to the performance tab andpress virual memory and switch the dot to "let me specify my own virutal memory settings". The min and max should be set the same. A guideline for this is to be 2 and a half times your RAM.

I'm at wit's end with my computer. The problem I'm having is this: When I try to play Diablo II, I select the play button and before the menu comes up I hear the error beep (sound made when something goes wrong and a dialog box pops up), but I can't see anything because the whole screen is black. If I hit esc I hear another beep, but the screen stays black. If I hit esc again I hear another beep and usually I get my desktop back again (sometimes it hangs and I have to reboot). When I got my desktop back last night I ran the PsuedoRam memory check from FixIt utility and got the following message on a blue screen during the check:

An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C000E8BE in VxD 0000D8BE. This was called from 0028:C004AD2F in VxD VFAT(01)+0000B23F. It may be possible to continue normally.

When I hit a key to continue then tried to reboot my machine, I got the blue screen again and another message:

File Name: VMM(01)+0000DC96 Error:0E:0028:C000EC96

I had to shut the system down. I've tried reinstalling Diablo, removing a Ram chip, and installing the 4 in 1 driver for the Via Chipset. I've tried updating my video card driver and still had no luck. I wish I could see the dialog box that DiabloII throws up when it fails to start, but the screen stays black.

Here is the system I have:
Iwill kv200r motherboard
Athlon 900 processor
2 - 128 meg pc133 ram chips
Elsa Gladiac GeForce2 GTS 32 meg video card
31 gig IBM 7200 hard drive
Pioneer dvd drive
cd burner

I use to see another VMM error whenever I ran the FixIt memory check, but after I installed the 4in1 Via driver that I saw mentioned on this site, it stopped occurring. I don't play any other games, so I don't know if it's the game or WindowsME. A friend of mine put a bunch of other software things on my pc, so I don't know if it's a conflict with that or a hardware issue. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! I put the machine together myself with parts bought from a home business. A friend built the exact same system at the same time with me except he got the Voodoo 5500 video card. He has not had these problems (but I don't think he is using ME or has all the software on his).
