having problems with video lockups ramdomly after bootup with onboard card. installed new pci geforce4 by setting to standard vga, shutting down, installing new card. now new card is recognized but old onboard intel 82810e graphic controller is also in device manager. plus unknown pci device along with the 82810e show yellow exclamation in device manager. in bios, onboard card is shown as disabled and pci device is showing as enabled. still having video lockups when put system under a load like running a program or opening system info help window. any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
compaq P3 850mhz 128mb ram winMe recently reformatted very little software installed also, was set to onboard card because fan had failed on older installed kyro based pci card. (could this have overheated and damaged motherboard)

Negative. Motherboard is fine. You just need to go into Device Manager and right click whichever video card you do NOT want to use and choose properties, and down at the bottom of the box there, under "General" tab there should be some dialoge about "Use this device (enabled)" or "exist in all hardware profiles" anyway. You want to click on the drop down arrow and choose to disable. Then reboot the computer.

Dave02, I tried that along with "disable in all profiles" and the reference to the onboard card and the unknown pci card is still there. It is like it doesn't want to let go of the onboard card even though the new pci card is showing as active on the bootup screen. I am hoping this "conflict" is what is causing my lockups but haven't had any luck troubleshooting. Can use it for much as it is except browsing windows explorer. I will try what you suggested again to make sure it was all set right. These lockups were occuring with the onboard card also, so I am not quite sure what is going on. Any other info or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

Dave02, If you are still monitoring the post, I can get the onboard graphics to work without any lockups. But whenever I install the GeForce4, it sets the bios to make it the primary video choice and disables the onboard graphics but after bootup, both still show in device manager and I lockup whenever anything graphically strenuous is done. I tried checking "disable" and unchecking "exist in all hardware profiles" under properties in device manager with no better results.
