video muffles sound & choppy video sound

I am running winme and whenever i try to play an mpg video, the sound is very crackly and choppy. Also when i am listening to mp3s with winamp and use the scrollbar on webpages and word it muffles the sound. I have latest drivers from cyrstal semiconductor sound card(pci) and Nvida- Nvidia TNT32mb (pci)I also have a subwoofer speaker system hooked up to the soudn card. I have amd 550processor and 310mb ram. thanks

If you have VirusScan running in Systray disable it..
