I've tried uninstalling and even different pci slots nothing seems to help getting it on its own irq. I think this may be causing my distorted sound problems when using yahoo messenger. Reformatted and installed new fax data voice modem pci 5630-5 creative labs modem blaster 56-v.90. It all works fine on the other end they hear me just fine, but on my end very distorted sound....Bios is up to date, newest 4-1 drivers for the Via chip....A friend said to take it back and get a ISA model DI5601, so that you can assign the irq and the com port you want to use. do you think this is causing my problem,,any suggestions....Paul

My Soyo board with VIA chipset has the modem and video on the same IRQ.
although I don't like it I can't seem to change it. I have too many cards but you might look in the bios PCI settings unassign irq for USB if there is an option
Do you use onboard sound? If you just reinstalled and haven't installed Via sound drivers it can cause problems. I had a game that sounded like someone had cut up the sound and put it back together at random. If this might be the case and the drivers don't do the trick go into the device manager in safe-mode and remove everything under sound then reboot to reload the drivers refresh. Making a registry backup first of course.
