Chai- You didn't mention how you are capturing. If, like dadin84, you are capturing via a firewire port from a camera, then there are only a few options to choose from.
If you go to www.vcdhelp.com and click on capture cards, they have tons of great resources. If you are capturing from an analog source, I personally owned an ati all in wonder radeon a couple of years ago that did what you're talking about and loved it. Pretty much all the all in wonder cards available now convert to mpeg from an analog source. Keep in mind that the tradeoff here is that although it's cool to capture in mpeg so you can get great vcd quality, you loose a lot of options when it comes to editing. Good luck to both of you, and check out the website above...it's the best source for anything to do with vcd making. -SN
P.S. after checking out the website, I'm strongly tempted to go for this badboy: http://www.canopus.com/US/products/advc-1394/pt_advc-1394.asp or click here
