Anyone in the group have any idea what the programme (VGX Q833989) is ? It appears in my list of programmes but I did not load it.
If I attempt to uninstall a dialogue box asking if I want to replace VGX Q833989 with the previously installed VGX 833989 (?) launches. If I then click OK I get the red cross action denied message.ThanksKeith

Keith,
(Microsoft "VGX Q833989"), is an update by microsoft. A security update.
For some reading on the subject. Have a look at this. It's long winded, mind you ;-)
As a side note. If you want to look at knowledge base articles. Put the follow in your address bar, followed by the kb number.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=
So in this instance you would put the "833989", after the = (sign)
Good Luck,
CrazyOne

Thanks for pointing the way CrazyOne.
I am really pleased to have the correct route to the knowledge base.
Relative to the dreaded VGX Q833989
If I read the article correctly Me is not affected.Am I missing something ? I regularly use Windows Update (not for much longer I understand Microsoft are withdrawing support for Me in June 2006) but do not recall this specific update.Even if I had downloaded the darn thing should it sit in my running programmes ? Why will my system not let me get rid of it ? Bear with me dithering.Any thoughts ?Keith

Bonjour Keith,
Well, are you using IE6+SP1? Me thinks, you just might be. Maybe even office, ect., both or others.
"Even if I had downloaded the darn thing should it sit in my running programmes ?"
Would like a little clarification on that, thanks.
Different reasons why that might be. Not being able to uninstall, that is.
May I ask why, you're trying to uninstall it.
Have you looked at the update site, at your update history? {lower left side is a link} Might be informative.
Will try to help, with your malaise - hésiter. But, might just cause some of my own.
;-)
Hope not...You're Welcome,
CrazyOne

Thanks again CrazyOne (particularly for the good humour)
The answers
1) Yes IE Version 6.0.2800.1106 and SP1
2) VGX Q833989 does not appear on my list in update 'history'
3) I am uncomfortable when any update appears in my running programme list. When I could not identify the programme I thought it might be the culprit and attempted an uninstall.
I do have Office 2000.Would you have another think ?
ThanksKeith
