Hello,
I have tried to solve this problem trough several ways, along several days, but this is impossible for me.
When my computer boots, this message is showed:
"Initializing VFBACKUP device.
Protection Windows Error. You must reboot the computer. System stopped"

After this I cannot restart in safe mode. I only can restart with the emergency diskette and entry in
MS-DOS mode. I have all my data and directory there, and I can navigate and run some "no-windows"
executable programs.
Scandisk not find any problem in the fixed disk, and the fans run correctly.
I have restored a previous system version running SCANREG...... Nothing.

The last thing that I did before error shows, was a CD-Copier program installation. ¿Some problem with a driver o IRQ? Perhaps, but I d´ont know how I can solve it. When I boot in "Step by Step" mode, the error appears after give OK to the Mouse driver... and apperas when I denied the drivers as well.

I hope somebody had this error before me... and perhaps wouldn' t necesary re-install Windows or (AAAAGH)... format the fixed disk.
WHAT CAN I DO? HELP PLEASE !!!
Thousands thanks in advance.

Thank you Dave for your help.
I found very interesting your suggestions, and specially useful the reference page linked from you. There were a lot of excellent ideas there.
But I have try all of them and my computer doesn´t work. I cannot start in Windows.
I will try re-install Windows-Me again and so, if the problem remainds...
But lot of thanks for your help, you are very kind.
"Saludos".
