Comment:
I have a 20Gb HD and as I have the PC over 3 years this has reduced considerably. However since late last year the available HD space has been reducing dramatically even though I've installed nothing or created any large files. I've been logging this since mid December and I'm losing 10Mb to 20Mb per day approx. Strangely enough however it increased on 30th December from just under 700Mb to 1.45Gb but is now down to nearly 600Mb. I installed PC-Cillin in November and while I can't be sure that the problem started then I'm suspicious. Has anyone else experienced this vanishing disk space? If so do you know the cause and the solution? Any help is much appreciated.
Try going Control Panel, System icon, Performance tab, File System.. button, and for the "System Restore disk space use:" slide the slider from the Max position to Close to (but not to) the Min side. So that it shows about 900MB. Then click Apply and exit out.
Next, take a look at DELINDEX.BAT and make a boot diskette to use it once. It will really clean out junk on your system.
Thanks for that advice. I've set the slider to just over 1Gb so I'll see how that goes over the next few days. I've never heard of Delindex.bat but I'll bear that in mind also.
