i have an hp with windows me. bought it new and ive had it for 5 years. it still works fine . ive never had another computer. anyway ive recieved a newer model hp with xp. well if i put all my files and programs in my aol e mail on the windows me cant i just transfer everything to the new computer via the e mail? my old computer is so good that i just want to keep everything on its drive so if the new one goes down i can hook the old back up again. the old drive is xg838 and no matter how i messed with computer the comp always worked. thanks for any info

linda49, transfer via e-mail sounds like it oughta work. Problem I can visualize is that there are size limits on most mail servers that might get in the way and if you're on dial up, it'll take forever. What if you simply hook the two up with a cable and copy the files from the old to the new and install them as needed on the new? Should be a much faster, non destructive method. I did a similar thing by installing my ME hard drive as slave on an XP system. Transfer is quick & easy. HTH. Ed in Texas.

linda49, sending stuff via E-mail is a very slow way to do things. I would suggest you look into buying a 'memory pen' and transfer the files via the USB ports. I have one of these pens and it cost less than £21 ($40) for 256mb. If you shop around you will find them even cheaper. I use mine for college and just about everywhere else.
