I am having problems getting my computer to recognize an external usb drive/mp3 player. I get the following message; *C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\A*
then *USBNTMAP.SYS was not found*I have reinstalled twice recently and both times this has happened.
I used to be able to reinstall direct from a Windows Me CD. The last two times I received a message something like*error on disc drive*.After trying other options I found I could get my computer to accept a WIN 98 second edition disc and then by inserting the Win ME disc it proceeded to install ME on top.
So I arrive at WIN ME on start up.
I made sure that the AOL broadband installation went on last in case there was something *locking out* the USB files (the AOL reference in *Common Files\AOL\A*). The problem is still there.
Two questions;
Does anybody recognize what is happening with the missing file and how do I resolve it.
Is there any connection between the missing file and the ad hoc installation of Win 98 + Win ME
Thank you
