Hi,
I´ve setup this machine to share internet with a laptop using a USB wifi adpter (ENCORE ENUWI-SG).
Windows, was installed from new, also installed IE 6.0 and MS office to be able to give it some other use.
The USB dongle and Internet Sahreing is workig fine.
BUT, CPU is on it knees sice I ´ve installed the Encore driver. Wintop (from powertoys) shows that ACS.exe is taking almos 99% of CPU usage.
Searched w google and acs. exe is related to Atheros Wireless LAN (probably used by encore in its setup).
The worst is tha it keeps this way if th e connection in not set up and even if the USB adapter is unpluged.

1- Is this normal to happens??

2- I haven´t tried it yet but I guess that seting CpuPriority in VxD/bios registry to 1 or 2 will help to recover some CPU for other tasks. Am I right???

3- Will it help to lower the USB polling??

4- Will theese two changes afect in a bad way performace of the wifi connection????

Sorry fos spelling,,Thans for the answers....

More memory, at least 256MB would not go amiss, so that the CPU is not constantly swapping memory between real and virtual.......

fwiw - - Minimum System Requirements for WinME states 32 megabytes (MB) of RAM or better

... and from personal experience, anything over 64Mb is reasonable, depending on use (naturally)

"Sorry fos spelling,,"

Heh - I'm not sure what that is, but it bears little resemblance to any spelling I've seen, and borders on 'too painful to read'

I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

Thank you for the answers!
I don't think it is a low ram prblem, in fact I have no active apps else than those needed to share internet to the usb wifi.
I don't see the HD swaping at all.
Just CPU idle in 0%.
Any one else shareing internet with an usb adapter in 98/Me????

ok just to clear something up for most of you that have forgotten, most chipsets on the Skt7 are 128mb ram cacheable and his K6-II might only have one of the older 430TX chipsets with only 64mb cacheable ram.

2nd i have a K6-II 450 with a Wifi adaptor, its not the adaptor thats casuing your problem its the software, its made for alot newer comps, my advice is to setup your wifi, then close the app, it should keep the connection open regardless

Thank you candle_86.
You are right, is a SOYO BT mobo w a TX chipset. What should I notice with this?, a slower performance? windows recognice all 128mb, were can I have some info about this?

The original problem was solved at least partially using CPUPriority as 2 in the registry. Now it guives cpu time to other tasks. I will trya shutting down the soft, and let you know

Thank you!!
