Milrite, step #1 for me with any ME problem is to make it more user friendly. ME can be tamed and made into a really nice OS, but as it came from the box, it wasn't. If I were you, first thing I'd do is follow 'Trev's Tweaks ...' @:

That may not solve it, but can't hurt. As it came, ME had severe memory management problems and did some really bizarre things.

Seems like a USB driver flash reader problem

Thanks for the replys
Ed: Trev's Tweaks was interesting. I had already completed most of the mentioned chores before, but some of the tweaks I hadn't heard of before. On in particular-the VMM file I have backed up long ago, of course I now have no idea where HA.

Bob: You mentioned USB flash reader drivers but nothing about location to acquire them. The funny part is this laptop also has a PCMCIA port and flash memory works fine with this slot. So I assume it has something to do entirely with the USB port. Although I have an old ORB USB drive that works fine when plugged in--damn thing just can't read flash memory. Its a 1G mini flash--is there a upper limit that ME can handle?

Well back to the drawing board, Thanks again
