Hi all, the question i have is I recently got a lcd flatscreen and it has two usb ports on back of it. I have the lcd monitor running off my laptop, and was wondering if that could be why the usb ports don't respond when plugged into on the lcd? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank's, John

Hi,
Unless your laptop motherboard is designed to use these additional USB ports and has the necessary hardware and cable connections to use themm, then they are unlikely to work.
I've come across monitors with USB ports frequently. Some of our systems at work even have USB ports on side of the keyboards. I suspect they are USB 1 not USB 2, but have not had the chance to test this out.
Check out the monitor maanufacturers web site and hand book about how to enable these USB ports.

John, From the few LCD's that I have seen, the USB ports in the base are for extra USB ports. Some monitors are considered USB hubs. They usually require a jumper from the CPU to the monitor.
The entry point for this jumper is usually well hidden, found most of the time somewhere near the video cable connection to the LCD, at least on the ones I have seen.
Have not seen a monitor yet that delivers USB via a video cable.
Cheers
