Hi,

I am trying to fix a friend's pc. Problem is that his usb mouse will not work in normal mode, it does work in safe mode though. Device manager list mouse working fine. I have deleted mouse off from device manager and let ME isntall it but it still does not work in normal mode. He did say that his video was not working correctly, everythign became big. Anyway, I downloaded the latest drivers for his video and it is workign fine now but the usb mouse still does not work. There has never been any exlamation pt in device manager. Here are the specs on his PC:

Gateway Essential Flexatxstc Bro Essential 1100 (P3, 1 Gig), 128 mb ram.

This pc is one of those that uses a usb mouse connected straight to the keyboard instead to the pc. There are NO ps/2 ports nor serial ports, so any ps/2 mouse or serial mouse solution is out. Must be usb mouse.

This is what I have done so far:
- I have used a new usb keyboard and several different new and used usb mice, but all do not work in normal mode, safe mode will work fine. Keyboard and mouse plugging into differnet usb ports.

- I have tried plugging the mice in different usb ports but does not work.

- I have deleted mouse from device managers. i have even deleted the usb port section but it still does not work.

I think my problem has something to do with the usb ports drivers not working correctly. Where can I get new usb drivers if that is it? I'll settle for the ones on the ME installation disk (I have one) if that will work. Extract it from there? Thanks in advance.

Slightly confused here. you first say:

"usb mouse connected straight to the keyboard instead to the pc" in which case I'd say that you probably need a driver for the keyboard before the mouse is recognised. Then you say:

"Keyboard and mouse plugging into differnet usb ports."

Are you USB ports working correctly in Device Manager (no exclamation marks on them (bottom item)). Have you checked whether they're set up correctly in the BIOS - there's usually a setting for legacy USB drivers - which may mean your mouse.

Regards
Johnr

Johnr,

sorry for the confusion. the computer's original peripherals is a usb keyboard where the usb mouse plugs directly to the keyboard, not to the computer. When i said "Keyboard and mouse plugging into differnet usb ports.", i meant i was using a brand new different keyboard and new usb mouse. i was not using the original keyboard/mouse combo. hope that clears things up. i haven't checked the bios, but I will when i get the chance but i think i just have bad drivers for the usb drivers.

there were no exclamation marks for the usb ports in device manager, but i did delete that section and let ME install it just to be sure. Device manager says that it is working properly.

thanks for the reply and let me know if you can think of anything else.
