USB external drive does not show up

system seems to know I connected a remote drive to the USB port, but it does not show up in "my computer" and I can't access the drive.

Hi,

Windows will recognise the USB device, because it has been plugged in

Have you partitioned and formated the drive.

Windows will not recognise the drive fully until you have done this.
