I have a Lexmark X73 printer. It worked fine on my computer until I had to reformat. I have had the printer checked--nothing wrong there. I can only get to the part of installation where the computer tells me it cannot communicate with the printer. When I reinstalled everything did something happen to my USB plugs? Other devices work in the USB pugs.

Hi,

Did you install the chipset drivers for your motherboard once you had installed the O/S.

Without these drivers the USB ports may not function fully or properly for all devices.

That would be the problem. Chipset drivers off the motherboard cd should be the first install after the os.
