My friend recently tried to upgrade from windows ME to windows 2000. I know that these 2 OS's are not compatible with each other, but it's too late, and it's already done. Now his computer will only keep restarting when he turns it on. What can I do to help him fix his computer. Is there any way to install windows XP over both of them? How can I keep the system from restarting.

hello
if he has a recovery cd for m.e or full install cd than just use bootdisk and reformat c: at the a:type reformat c:
click enter and follow instructions.
but you might beable to save m.e on c; at the a:type scanreg /restore and pick a restore point befor boscted install
a good restore point will have started beside it if still haveinf trubles try at the a:sys c: click enter and reboot
and allso after trying the first two at the a:type fdisk /mbr click enter and reboot
unless xp is a full install you can just incert it in drive and reboot.
but if its an up grade there needs to be most of full qualifiying system on hard drive.it might install over your botched system chose advanced and have it format as you got if your going to run other o/s s on computer and need to read xp files format as fat 32 if not format as ntfs.
i have xp home up grade that i instald over ghost cpy of m.e on drive d: i did it as ntfs. but allso tryed it as fat32 both work cant see much diferance other than i have to transfir mp3s and files to m.e 98-or 95 for them to read from xp. go with fat32 if your running multiple o/s,s
my linux reads fat 32 as well.
have a grate day

erik: I did exactly the same : tried to upgrade wiME to win2000 server and I ended up having 2 OS on the same partition and they are both completely functionnal lol I know it is weird but oh well, it works. But in your case I wouldn't mess it up more than it is allready by trying to do what you want to do. Just format and install the new OS if that is what you really want to do
