my friend gave me his old Hp pavilion 7850 - he tried to upgrade the computer using his XP recovery cd from his gateway computer - when I turn it on it only shows a blank screen.

please HELP

That wasn't too smart of him. You're going to have to completely wipe the hard drive & start from scratch.

That computer is NOT a good candidate for XP...stick with WinME or possibly Win2000. If you're adventurous, you could try one of the Linux distros that are designed for old hardware.

I agree...bad move using that Gateway CD. Maybe he still has the Hp cd to restore it to day 1?
