Upgrade from W98se to Win ME

Hello all, i upgraded from w98se to winme using the upgrade disk (not full install) then went on the internet to download any critical updates , i downloaded the first one the rebooted for changes to take effect, when i rebooted i was unable to maintain a connection to the internet it would connect then immediateley disconnect!!
so i therefore went back to w98se with no prblems at all.
does anyone know why this happened and what i can do to stop it from happening again when i go to reinstall ME

p.s i assume it is some sort of problem with the critical update?
if your windows 98 works without problems then dont upgrade to windows ME... dont fix what is not broken.... if you have WDM modem it will never work with windows ME as good as it worked with 98 and it might not work at all... also other older hardware might give you troubles... windows ME is just windows 98 with changed air in the tires Regards Miro

The smartest thing to do is stay with "98". Since I have WINME I have never seen so many blue screens & I have worked from DOS,WIN,WIN95,WIN98. WINME was another one of M$$$$$$$ way of getting more money. I am going into Linux and never return to M$.
