Subject: Upgrade from ME to XPOS: Windows MECPU/Ram: 512Mb |
Comment: This weekend I hope to upgrade from ME to XP via a clean install. My hard disc has 3 partitions, C operating and D & E for data. I will delete C, format NTFS and install XP. However it has just occured to me that partitions D & E will still be Fat 32. Is this OK please or should I change these partitions to NTFS when I install XP? I am hoping that I will not need to alter D & E! Any advice will be very welcome. Thanks.

Reply: (edit)Noel A, think you're in luck. XP can see/read either format so it won't care. The reverse isn't true, ME can see/read ONLY FAT32 so it won't work in reverse. In my experience, the NTSF format is quite a bit more stable so there are some real advantages in using it. I have the setup you describe and it works fine. One drive is NTSF and one's FAT32. HTH. Reply: (edit)Ed, how about NTFS? LOL Noel, as long as you have enough partition capacity on C, you don't need to change anything on the other two partitions. However, I do recommend that you backup all your data on D and E before doing anything.. Course, you probably already have backups... :)
