I have two programs running in memory rnaap.exe(DUN) and tapisrv.exe and I don't want or need them since I use DSL. They are not in the startup folder and I checked msconfig and they are not starting from there. They only thing I can think that has changed is that I installed Mozilla. Can anyone tell me how they are starting and how do I get rid of them. They can't be seen from the close program dialog process, I see them by way of TCactive.

Hit start, Run msconfig, enter

Go to startup and uncheck everything except

LoadPowerProfile (you may have more than one) I do.

Note this was recommended to me by MY Technical support people that sold me my computer because I was starting up and having many things running in the background, causing crashing, slowing my pc down and other problems. This solves some problems, not all -- After you do reboot and the computer starts back up, you will see a box that your startup has changed (not exact wording) Just check "not to show this again" or Okay -- it's only confirming your changes went through and you don't need to know this everytime you boot up -- leaving it will only show it everytime you boot -- so uncheck to turn it off.

Hope this gets rid of everything you don't want running in the background and you can even get away with unchecking EVERYTHING under startup and not cause any problems, but because I was told to leave the Loadpowerprofile -- I'm telling you the same. They're the smarties, right? I wonder :)

Another thing you can do as well after the above....

Click on your taskbar and start menu properties and uncheck beneath Start Menu and Taskbar what you don't need. Then also within these properties/Advanced, Clear records recently accessed.

Uncheck under General Tab before exiting Taskbar & Start Menu properties -- Auto Hide, Show small icons in start menu, and use personalized menus -- less is better.

Good luck. Again, it will help with what you mentioned but anytime you install a program or make changes, you may have to rerun msconfig -- and uncheck anything now checked under startup tab -- just check periodically so nothing automatically starts running in the background at startup.

I would classify them, as "Uneducated support people" But, that's just my opinion ;-)

Well I use spybot, adaware6, pestpatrol, the cleaner, Nav 2002. None of them found anything nasty. I already know how to use Msconfig(mostly) I deleted my Sbc/yahoo dial-up in the DUN folder and Presto! Fixed. Thanks for all the replies
