Comment:

When online (Earthlink), unpredictably all screen functions markedly speed up: cursors blink at least 3times normal; Earthlink world icon spins blindingly; and the lower-right Windows clock gains 3 minutes per "real" minute! Problem unpredictable stops on its own but leaves clock at wrong advanced time. Restarting computer during this hyperfast problem also cures it and correctly resets clock. Is this a Windows problem? Is there a fix?

Try doing the standard SpyWare/AD-ware checks with Ad-Aware 6 and SpyBot and an online virus scan. This problem can be caused by corrupted software or things like multiple copies of a driver being installed.

Check the MSCONFIG Startup tab, and make sure there are not two or more copies of some driver being loaded (normal for two LoadPowerProfile entries).
