The only way I know of is to format the drive and install Win98.

I can't give you sure-fire instructions for this, but I feel sure someone here can.

I don't think spamming the forum with repeated questions is the proper way to go about getting help tho'.

Sorry for my misunderstanding.

I think several of your questions about this have been misunderstood also so you did right trying to straighten out that problem.

It's not my place to tell you that anyway, so again I apologize.

Are you sure 'THIS CRAPPY OS' is not down to pilot error?

I have Win ME and have no problems. I don't allow spyware, and have as little running near the clock as possible, no screen saver etc.

Who installed Win ME on your system? Could they have cocked it up?

If you want a clean install, see....

http://fdisk.radified.com

It would take too long to type it up.

Simply reformat the partition containing Me and install whatever OS you want.

I can't believe you couldn't find the solution to your 'problem' already answered on these forums.

Chris. before you condem ME entirely, be aware that help exists. A lot of folks (including me) experienced a LOT of problems at first.
After reading/applying 'Trev's tweaks' found at:
http://www.burzurq.com/forum/trevtweak.html
it became a well behaved system for me. Perhaps you should give it a whirl.

I am having the same problem. There seems to be no ms-dos in windows me. I am an engineer with to years experience and this has frustrated me all morning. You cannot format the partition if you cant get into dos. try it bobsearch.

"You cannot format the partition if you cant get into dos."

Simply use a Windows bootdisk, or one of several other programs available that run from a bootable floppy. Personally I use Ranish Partition Manager (freeware). Ranish is absolutely reliable and can be installed to a bootable floppy.

Your hard drive manufacturer may also have a utility that runs from floppy. For instance, Seagate has an excellent set of utilities for hard drive diagnostics and partitioning.

Best Wishes,

Microsoft have an article on the Windows CDs and also on their website. On the ME CD you'll find the article in \addons\document\guide and it's called mqsg. The information you want starts about page 31. On a PC with ME already installed you will also find a similar article at C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL\CLEANHD.TXT
On the website, go to
http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/topics/winme/setup/setupht.asp
which also has a great deal of other useful information on dual booting, setup and uninstalling, and
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q255/8/67.asp
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/ http://www.burzurq.com/forum/format_reinstall_.html are also useful
Be very careful you have all your drivers and original disks for all your components and peripherals, or download latest versions before you start.

If you really want to go back to 98, you must be nuts. Try a fresh install of ME instead, after formatting the hard drive and set it up as described in the homepage link on this response.

I've no problems with me. I really love the restore. My grandkids have fun tring to crash me. It has saved me many times over. I also like 98SE. But anything i can do on 98 i can do on me. as for real dos. theres 3rd party freeware apps for that. And all of them work. I even use 98 reskit on me. go to axel216. there you can find all the fixes you need. Once you fix dos its 98SE with restore.
