Name: Nick R (by Nick Ritchie)
I installed the free version of RealPlayerOne to download and watch a clip I wanted to see ,having no idea that this player would "highjack" my system .I have already removed thru MSCONFIG it from loading at startup . However if I use the player again it will add it back to the startup .I also went into the Windows Control panel and changed all of the formats that Real Player took over ,back to Windows Media Player. From what I've read this player adds alot of entries to the registry ! The player does have a uninstall program that came with it ,or would I be better off using the add/remove in the control panel .I cant believe I was dumb enough to download this piece of spamware .I had recently uninstalled Quick Time Player ,it was causing a problem with I.E. and downloading .I rarely use any of these players ,so Iam happy with just having WMP , however I also have a player that was installed with a game demo called InterActualPlayer, my ATI graphics card came with its own player ,plus when I installed my sound card ,the software came bundled with Music Match Jukebox ! How many of these friggin players do I need ? I use my PC mostly for surfing the net, and keeping data (nothing of real importance) and playing games! I also have ATI TV WONDER the USB Edition ,which enables me to watch TV in a resizable box while surfing the net .When I installed the software for the TV wonder I had to uninstall the ATI DVD Player because ATI informed they would cause conflicts ! I installed InterVideo's WinDVD 2000 player ,however the readme file for that DVD player says it does not allow you to use the TV out feature if your Graphic card has it,and of course my ATI card does ? No biggie ,I have a DVD Player for my TV ! Sorry for the rant ,my main ? her is on getting Real Player off my system ,someone told me the only way to get rid if it was to reformat ? Seems a little drastic ! Thanks To All in Adavance,Nick

I have Realplayer and it's no problem.
When installing, I did not agree to Internet connection for updates, recommendations or any other option. Re-starting in safe mode, I could re-name realevent.exe to realevent.ex- and this stopped the pop-ups (according to another poster on another site). I re-named at the start so I have didn't get pop-ups to start with.
Zonealarm told me of this file! There is another file which I don't think does any (real) harm, but I want to disable it anyway.... I think it called something like realsched.exe (perhaps a scheduler ?).
I need to look into this before I turn off something that I may need.As a last 2 cents..... there is another prog that claims to play .rm & .ram files etc without the spyware....
Real Alternative Version 1.02
Should work on Win 95/98/98se/ME/NT/2000/XP
Play RealAudio files without the spyware infested RealPlayer/RealOnePlays...
RealAudio .ra .rpm
RealMedia .rm .ram .rmvb .rpx .smi .smil
RealText .rt
ReadPix .rp
RealMedia embedded in web pagesThere is a problem with .smi .smil files. These may only play the first few seconds.
I appear to have lost the website I got it from..... may have been in the free section of.....
www.pcworld.com

Realplayer is spyware. I would download AdAware 6.0 and do a FULL system scan. It will get rid of it for you, as well as all other spyware on your computer.
