uninstall Windows ME from ME

Is there a way to stop (cancel) the Windows ME install during the process? Setup keeps crashing during hardware configuration. I already have ME installed and I found out that I don't need to reinstall it. I had an earlier problem that I could fix from my original Windows ME (my tech guy lied...)
Also, if I uninstall Windows ME (I still have the uninstall information) would it get rid of my first install of Windows ME too? I ask because it asks if I really want to uninstall Windows ME (but doesn't refer to which copy).
