I just bought a new Dell system and it came with Win ME. I installed my ethernet card and software for my DSL service and it does not work. Also, I got two 3com homeconnect nics and intalled them and it wont work on my new computer running Win ME(everything works great on my old comp running Win 98).
so I called Dell and are having them send me
Win 98se to put on my new system. How do I do this? Any tips before I call tech support and end up being on the phone for hours...

If you look back through the past pages, you'll see tons of reformat/reinstall Q and As. You can also use the site search function for a myriad of answers. Basically, you'll have to reformat/repartition your current HDD, then reinstall. I don;t use ME though, so thats as far as I go.

there is an excellent guide to fdisk(partitioning your drive into smaller sections) and format(cleaning your drive so there is nothing on it) here:

it even has pictures so you know what to expect before you start...
if you have any questions after you've read it, feel free to email me.

A little off topic but I have the same dilema with a dell laptop, only they do not want to send out a Win98 cd to me. Has Dell agreed to send out the Win98 cd to you or do you have to ship the machine back to them?

You could do yourself and all 3C450 owners a favor and call 3COM 1-800-527-8677 to request Windows Me compatible drivers be written for the 3C450 NICs that come with the HomeConnect Ethernet kit. A 3COM Technician told me the Windows 98 drivers that come with 3C450 HomeConnect NICs were not compatible with Me and that if enough people called to ask for new drivers that they would eventually be pressured into to writing Me drivers. Pretty lousy way of treating your customers.
