I am currently running winME and it sucks. I am going to install XP. I know that you can simply install over winME, but it keeps all your settings. I don't want to keep any settings that i made using ME. I want to put XP on my comp from scratch.
If i format, how will i boot my computer?? XP didn't come with a boot disk, do i even need one?
Any ideas on the best way to completely rid myself of ME and install XP??
By the way, my computer is xp ready, and so is all my hardware.

Just format and insert your XP CD, it's bootable. Good luck:)

As long as your computer is set up to where it can boot up from your CD drive, just insert the CD in your drive and restart your computer. it will format the hard drive for you. you dont even need to have a win 98 boot disk if your CD drive is botable.

You really don't even have to boot from the cd. Just insert it while Windows is running and you can start the install from there. It's definitely worth the extra time to run the upgrade advisor on the cd first. It will tell you if you are going to have any problems with hardware, and you want to make sure you have all the device drivers you need BEFORE you install XP. When you're ready for the actual install, the XP program will give you the opportunity to delete your old partitions and create and format new ones.

if you can't handle ME you're really gonna have fun with xp, provided you can get it to install to a blank hdd.

Guru's right. XP won't install to a blank hdd. Yesterday I removed Win Me using fdisk, and then tried to install XP - no joy. In the end, I had to load a Win 98 starter disk first. Only then would XP install.
