I can see other computers in My Network Places only by searching instead of browsing but I don't have this problem in my Host machine. Any ideas?

What protocols are you using? I have heard that there is a problem with IPX/SPX in windows ME

Try Using TCPIP and see if you still have the same problem.

Two day old Dell Dimension with WinME pre-installed.

I had the same initial problem with both TCP/IP and NetBEUI installed on WinMe. I use TCP/IP for access to WinProxy and the internet. For security reasons, I had no bindings selected for TCP/IP. (I wanted my file sharing isolated from the internet. I was using NetBEUI for printer and file sharing.)

Once I selected bindings for TCP/IP the Browse feature worked.

Now I am not sure if I have file protection from the internet. Anyone got a comment?

If the TCP/IP security issue and file sharing are in conflict, WindowsMe is not very user freindly to an internet connection via DSL or cable modem.

Mark, I'm unable to "browse the network" also. Installed; reinstalled; ... blah, blah, blah. What are bindings & how do you select them?

Kat, Try theses steps. Go to Start Button, Settings, Control Panel. In the control panel folder choose and launch the Network Icon. When the network window opens you will see three tabs at the top. Choose the Configuration tab. At the top of the list you should see a client, a network adapter and possibly a dial-up adapter. If they are not present you must add them with the add button. At the bottom of the list you should see file & printer sharing. If you do not, you should click the file and print sharing button visable below the list. Just below the adapter list you should see a list of protocols like NetBEUI or TCP/IP. If TCP/IP is not present you will need to add that protocol with the add button.

If TCP/IP is present, click on it in the list. Then click on the Properties button. At that point you will see the bindings tab. You should select the binding for both the client and the file/printer sharing.

This method was based on the process be for WinMe, but still works. However, there is a Home Networking Wizard in My Network Places in WinMe. I have never used the Wizard method and have read some comments that it does not work real smooth.

I've found a solution to browse My Network Places - Just make sure you choose Client for Microsoft Networks instead of Windows Logon under Primary Network Logons on your Host machine and you'll be able to browse My Network Places.

Ken-

This still doesn't do it for me. Are you logging onto an Windows NT domain? Are you running Internet Connection Sharing?

I looked at the WindMill internet sharing,
but decided to stay with "Wingate"
works perfectly.
Plus every machine has their "own" firewall.
No proxy, it uses NAT.
