Hi, I have a Compaq Presario laptop that runs on a Windows ME system. I tried installing Windows Media Player 9 recently, but cancelled halfway as the installation hung. When I tried to reboot the computer, it froze at the Windows ME splash screen. I tried using a boot disk I downloaded from bootdisk.com and going into DOS to do a scanreg/restore, but although it says that the system has been restored successfully, I get the same error when I remove the boot disk and try to restart -- it still freezes at the splash screen. Would anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this problem? I've tried Safe Mode too, but to no avail. Thank you in advance. :)

my suggestion is do a format if all you did was a reinstall there's just the prob of the slow updates and stay away from the WMP9 enless you want to watch movies with it but if thats the case download the free version od divx player at www.divx.com

willowstorm, Uh... you weren't going to caution about losing data; just format it to unscrew an aborted install of mplayer. wandernicht, Try pressing F8 while booting, to bring up boot choices. I think there's one choice to log the boot results. That should leave a log in the root and you can can look through it to see at what point it failed. HTH M2
