We have been unable to access the main identity in Outlook Express. When starting the program it presents a login dialog box asking for the user name and password. However despite the password being correct it comes up with this error message

"There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'mail.btinternet.com 2', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Error logging in. Please visit http://mail.yahoo.com', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92"

We have checked the anti-virus and the firewall and they don't seem to be causing the problem.

Are you using Yahoo POP mail and indeed have a Premium account on Yahoo? Or, is your ISP btinternet.com?

Have a word with your server. They are good at this as they deal with problems like it all the time.

It looks as if your account is wrongly set. 127.0.0.1 is a "loop back" address and is not that of your server.

The ISP is btinternet.com. Oddly there is another account, with a different e-mail address that also has 127.0.0.1 for the server address and that works.

Are you running the PopMail email/spam eraser software by any chance?

with ME it is easy enought to do a *.pwl search on your C drive and delete them all and reset all your passwords as you go as you like. (if its truly JUST a password issue. Dump your account completely from setup and reset up you email client OR IN FACT- Delete all your C:\programs\outlook exp..... dump them ALL. Start using your email client and the storage they give you on their site. Stop using Outl Exp. you dont need it. cept for some little conveniences thet cost you venerability's.
Its nothing like 'OUTLOOK' in office (much more secure) and you are downloading all that CRAP to your computer when you don't have to. STOP USING OUTLOOK EXPRESS oh did I say that :) Darren

Like most things Outlook Express (and IE for that matter) are a matter of understanding them then using common sense.

They've been on my machines since 1995 and on this W98E since Nov 1999 (original format). All I've ever had in the way of nasties was "Happy 99" (in 1999) and Comet Cursor which was part of Real Player before I dumped it. Neither were particularly serious.

Sure, there might well be better programs around and personal preferences, but on the basis of the above it would be like overkill for me to ditch either of them.
