Iam running Windows Me, which came pre-installed on my PC. I downloaded TweakUI 1.33 from the Microsoft Web site. After the download 4 files where decompressed to the Windows \Temp folder . When I double clicked on the install file , the following prompt appeared: TweakUI should be run from the Control Panel.Would you like to install now . I clicked on yes. A box appeared :Coping Files
The 'TWEAKYI.CNT'was not found.Setup could not find a file in specified path. If the path appears below make sure it is correct. Click OK to try copying again. Copy files from
C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS when I click on details a box opens called ERROR DETAILS The following error occured:'The file was not found(error#2) Setup could not finish opening a file on the source disk.Source file 'C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS\TWEAKUI.CPL' Destination file:'C\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\TWEAKUI.CPL
At this point Iam stumped, I do not have the Windows Me installation Disk , all I have is a RecoveryMe floppy and a RecoveryMe CD. I still have the 4 files in my temp folder , and another hidden file (faded icon) appeared after I attempted to install the TweakUI Control Panel extension to the Control Panel. Anyone have an idea on whats up with this install ? Should I just delete the files ? I was rather excited to do some tweaking. All help greatly appreciated, Thanks Nick

By the way, TWEAK is a good program, but if you are looking for a better program along those lines, try www.xteq.com.
It is much more comprehensive and customizable, with frequent updates. There really is no comparison between the two.
Besides, install is a breeze. Seems like lots of people here have TWEAK install problems.

You need to point to the folder to were it unzipped itself..In this case the temp folder..It is a bit confusing, but rather simple...

Thanks to all whom replied to my problem . Now everytime I boot my PC up I recieve an error "TweakUI.cpl file could not be found" I went to the control panel and to add, remove programs and TweakUI was listed there . However when I chose uninstall it would not remove it from the list ? I went to the temp folder where the 5 TweakUI files where and deleted them . I rebooted my system the error appeared again. Did a system restore , it removed the error and removed it from the add.remove programs in the control panel. No TweakUI for Me !Iam going to try the www.xteq.com link provided ! Thanks ,Nick

This might help you install TweakUI 1.33
First you need to right-click on the inf file and click install. When the message The TWEAKUI.CNT was not found. Setup could not find a file in specified path. If the path appears below make sure it is correct. Click OK to try copying again. Copy files from" ...then you need to point to the folder were TweakUI unzipped itself... in this case the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP folder browse till you find TWEAKUI.CNT click on it and away you go.
Hope this makes it a bit clearer, this problem was not in the earlier versions, it's no good complaining to Microsoft as it's unsupported software.

Perhaps a little off subject, but I've got I related question. I have TweakUI 1.33 installed, but I want to get rid of it. And can't. I have been trying to remove itfrom my Windows XP Pro system for quite a while. It looks easy enough: the add/remove-panel shows an entry for TweakUI. But when I press the uninstall-button, my computer tells me there's an error, 'and it seems as if TweakUI is already removed'. But it's not. The four files you mention in your article on a buggy version of Tweak are all still in place. So I have Windows search for 'tweak', move every file it finds to the recycle bin and yes: Tweak's gone. That seems too easy though, and it is. Restarting windows gives an error message: TWEAKUI.CPL can't be found. Of course not.'It's in the recycle bin. From there on, I tried a lot, all no use. Tweak won't leave without causing a dll error.
The problem is obviously in this one file tweakui.cpl. Do you perhaps have any input on how to get it out of my system? Ít's driving me up the walls. Any suggestion is welcome.
