Hey folks. My sis's hard drive failed after only a year and a half so I installed a new hard drive on her compaq preario 5100. The system bios and the hard drive configuration utility say that the drive is properly installed. I boot with the compaq quickrestore cd because sis didn't make a windows me boot disk. The system restore starts and normally. About 90% of the way through the process on the first disk I get this message "Disk inserted in drive N is not correct. Reinsert correct disk number 13 in drive N." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with the error. Some restore or recovery disks wont function properly unless the replacement drive is from the OEM.
They spend countless hours perfecting a system to lock the OS to the hardware when they should be figuring out how to keep it stable.
If the HD is from compaq i would contact the tech support staff.
You might contact them anyway because if this is a compaq specific issue they will probably have a workaround right in front of them.

Try this Compaq site:

Their email support is very good, have used it a couple of times with decent results.

For this problem, I've no idea. As far as I know, Compaq machines are not meant to be upgraded. As a matter of fact, the QuickRestore program ( determines the hardware that is preinstalled.) I think you should either (a) notify compaq staff or (b) Borrow an OS from your friends...

The site above is Saudi, here's US version:

Sorry bout that
