Comment:

Whenever I go to open an existing file in either Excel or word, I have to wait from one to one and one half minutes for the file to open. This does not occur when first opening the programs of Excel and Word. After clicking on an existing file, the hourglass disappears from site, however, I can tell that the computer is searching to open file.
Also, there is a slow down on the printer, if I try to print one of those files.
Would appreciate any ideas on correcting.
Thank you

Hey Richard,

If that 64MB RAM is correct then the bottleneck maybe "available RAM" issues.
Go to www.crucial.com input your model computer or Mobo and it will tell you exactly what type modules your system takes, how much per slot and for total system you can handle.
I'd try to get close to 256MB as a minimum if you run software built after 2000 (everything is big)

Also, go to Start, Run, type in msconfig, then OK. Then choose Start tab and you will see all the programs that are automatically starting each time you boot up your system.
Typically every program tries to sneek itself in here so it always runs but often over half of what is in there should be disabled so that it isn't auto-starting and sucking up your memory and resources when you don't need them running in the background.

Make a list of everything in there and then go to Pacs Portal:
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_all.php#C

and look up the programs to see what is needed and what you should probably uncheck.
If you find that you do need an unchecked program running in the background then just recheck it, and it is back autostarting again.
Good luck.
