check the bios may not be installed properly
use the bios setup\
use cd rom installation disk
hit the delete key at boot up will show bios setup screen
careful don't change any thing
get professional to install the cd rom for you.

How many hard drive letters do you have?
Just one? Or several?
Is the cd-rom showing up in device manager?:
Right click my computer.
Choose properties.
Go to the Device manager tab.
Click the plus sign by cd/dvd rom drives. Is it listed there? Is device manager reporting any problems?

I have the same problem. My "F" drive [CD ROM] does not show up in Windows Exporer, Winamp when I browse for a file, or any other application I use to go browsing for a file.
I know my CD drive works because if I put a CD in, I have to go to Start > Run and type in "F:". Then a My Computer window opens up with the CD's contents.
I have tried reassigned "G" to the drive but that doesn't show up either.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

Two things.
Make sure you are not running a program that lets you not search drives. Tweak is one. If you have marked the upper drives as 'not check', Windows has trouble finding it.Secondly, there is still a lastdrive statement similar to the ones we used to use in config.sys. It is now a part of the registry. Run REGEDIT and search for lastdrive. Make sure it has not been set to C or D. Go ahead and make it Z if you want.
Check your control panel, System, and see if the drive is there and marked as not active. Also does it see it as the correct drive. I also found that one needs to check the properties. Once the drive had no letter assigned to it yet. I assigned a letter to it, rebooted, and there it was.
Make sure the drive flashes when you boot up. If not, it could be a physical problem. Also check the cables if you have been 'under the hood'.
