I know there are various levels of expertise of people who use this forum, but sometimes even regular users post what are, IMHO, inappropriate subject lines.

Please don't construe this as whining; they're just suggestions for posters so that more people can help them sooner.

1. Please do not post a request for an answer from a specific person UNLESS a specific person posted a specific solution that you need further help on. I think it's inappropraite to post something with a subject like "[Person's Name] please help with [Problem]". If everyone took that literally, and [Person's Name] did not respond, there would be no response. It's also a slap in the face to the many, many people who are so able and willing to help so often.

2. Please be specific. This is a ME forum, so subjects like "ME problem" say nothing. This is also a forum to post problems as well as solutions; i.e., it is a help forum, so likewise a subject like "I need help" or "Please help me!!!" do not let others know if they can help without looking at the actual post. I also keep on "My Computing.net" all the great answers so many have posted previously, so I can help others. It's kind of frustrating looking for an answer I know you have but can't find because the subject line is vague or inappropriate.

(Maybe the moderator could allow us to change the subject for posts we store in "My Computing.net"? Hint, hint.)

Anyway, thanks for reading. Any comments?

I couldn't agree more; however my guess is that the people who need to read this won't. It's like preaching to the choir, you know. But I hope I am wrong!

Depends on whether or not your aStEroIdZz rom can be played with MAME :)viking! Your post makes sense Renaissance Man
but its kind like one of those "whatcha gunna doo'Z" Ive seen many posts asking info seekers to follow certain guidelines and this is one of the best. I completely agree with you. Im not a tech and can only help with the small stuff but the messages i hate/love are "Help Me" as the subject and "send me the driver for my Yamaha whatever immediately to my email". Those are the ones that feel kinda face slappy. Happy Holidays everyone.

As long as we're on the subject, how about those name challenged folks that post no name...

Mr. or Mrs. or Miss no name are you talking about replies or when posting a question? I agree Renaissance Man. It would make it so much easier for people to do searches. That is when/if people do searches :-(

I do not usually visit this board but have been redirected here from the Win9x board as a solution to a problem.

This does not offer any solution to the many redirects to this post.

As much as I agree that a good subject provides the reader/helper the train of thought for the post I do not find it neccessary.

I come to these boards to learn and help when I can.

There are many postings that have a subject that I do not look at because I have no knowledge of that particular subject however I do read all of those that state 'Help' as it is my thought that these are the folks that need the help the most. I can tell this by their subject line. It states that they do not know what their problem is.

Some of these 'Help' postings are about subjects I have no knowledge of but because they had an incorrect subject line I do read it and often learn something I did not know before.

I enjoy helping others almost as much as I enjoy learning something new.

I say that the only bad post is the post that is not posted.

A very good point, with which I agree.Although you do encounter some idiotic posts, and most people, seemingly,do not know what a search engine is,the idea of having such stringent rules to be follwed while posting subject lines seems a little too formal to me.I do,however, understand the need for proper forum etiquette...but,at the same time,if you don't want to read it...don't click on it!
I also realize I am fairly new to this forum, and appreciate all the help I've recieved, and certainly mean no disrespect to anyone. Now,let's get back to business!

I like Bryco was offered a link here today but from the winme forum. Nothing but the link. I assumed it led to a review about pc hardware because of the threads title and its contents but instead i end up here.
Sweet Machine??...You decide please
When i saw this post i assumed someone was asking for opinions about a computer system. I was correct yet someone felt the need to link back to this page. I see nothing in this Netiquette thread related to this persons post. The subject line is clear. What a world were creating where a few try and enforce rules on another in someone elses forum. I agree with the kid about not clicking it if you dont want to read it. Whats next? Comments about my sp3ll3n.
