All, any help would be appreciated. I wised up a few months ago and got rid of that POS software called AOL (went with a cable modem). I've since upgraded my computer, and I'm giving my old one to my parents. I can't connect to ANY ISP via the phone modem from their home with my old PC. I've read where any time you uninstall AOL, it technically doesn't uninstall everything. Any truth to this? If so, how do I fix it?

TIA...

Are you getting any error messages? If so, what do they say?
If the cable modem was connected to you old computer some settings may have been changed to connect to the internet.
Go to your control panel and open Internet Options. Click on the connections tab and make sure "always dial my default connection" is checked.

Yes the rumours are true.Aol backsup its entire software package on uninstall.Search for files or folders labelled aol on your harddrive.Delete these folders..should be three..including shortcuts which will surface later asking if you wish to reinstall aol..like you would change your mind.
Check device manager under network adaptors and remove any that are specific aol adaptors.Iwould also recommend going to control panel add/remove programs.Select internet explorer..repair.reboot when prompted.Aol installs many files to ie so this exercise is worthwhile.Good luck..

If you can connect to the internet via dial up, but cannot get any page to display... take a look at this article in the Microsoft Knowledgebase:

The Page Cannot Be Displayed Error Message After You Upgrade to Windows Millennium Edition (Q274498)

It will walk you through removing the Winsock2 key in the registry and uninstalling then reinstalling Dial up Netowrking. AOL modifies this key.

Ah, the AOL virus!

After you do all of the above suggestions, consider two more.

1. Search and delete all files named AOL and then, if you are brave,

2. Open Regedit. Find and delete all AOL entries.

You just can't remove too much AOL from a machine.

Get REGCLEANER from:

http://www.jv16.org/

It will take out anything you want (including all AOL entries) from the Registry.
Good Luck!
