task bar icons are black squares

all the icons on the start button side r all black squares the icons in start up ( programs& documents ) are all little blue icons. The desk top icons are like the control panel icons.i rebooted, tried changing them, and restored but no luck. I am going to try the house call virus scan but everything else seems fine.

TweakUI comes with a rebuild icon feature. You could try that.

Try doing a search for the shelliconcache file in c:\windows and delete (make a copy first) then reboot. It is a hidden file so you may have to enable viewing hidden files. See what that does.
