Comment: I had recently gotten the Winfixer spyware while trying to get rid of that I must have done something because now I get error loading Explorer.exe must reinstall windows and that also shows up when trying to boot in to safe mode. My question is though when I 1st got Windows ME I did a backup on the computer which I know don't know how to get to I really don't care if I start over from where I saved a long time ago because I already have moved all my files that I wanted over to my newer computer and if I do do that restore will it fix my problem

Reply: (edit)Jon148, about the only thing I can envision that might be a drawback is the fact that your backup might be outdated. If that won't matter, strikes me it oughta be fine. HTH. Ed in Texas.

Reply: (edit)When removing a virus, the general recommendation is to 1st disable system restore, then run the virus scan from safe mode. The problem with disabling system restore is that ALL restore points will be lost. The problem with not disabling it is that the virus might hide in the restore files.

Reply: (edit)Jon148, perhaps I'm a little befuddled here. My understanding is you have a backup on removable media such as a disk or CD. In that case, you can safely deal with your nasty. If, on the other hand, your backup ONLY exists on your machine, "We got trouble right here in River City". HTH. Ed in Texas.
