My wife's computer is acting like its possessed. I figured I would do a system restore ( I have done this on her computer many times). Now matter what date I use for a system restore point, ut goes through about half way through the process and then reboots without the progress line being complete. When it goes back on, it says that system restore was un successful, pick another point. I'm stuck, the computer is useless in its present conddition.

Well if system restore isn't working, then you can't use it.
You could try System file checker.
Click on Start/Run and type
sfc /scannow
click ok.

Or you could boot from the ME CD and reinstall ME over top of itself, without formatting.
That should get it stable again.

AFAIK, there is no SFC in Windows ME.

A dirty install might work as suggested above.

Are you ending tasks of everything except explorer and systray before attempting to use System Restore?

Some programs lock certain functions (antivirus?), maybe a clean boot of Windows ME would permit you to restore to an earlier time, or try from safe mode.
