I just reinstalled windows and drivers on a clean drive. I created a restore point and named it "clean install". Now i want to disable Restore so its not running all the time. If i do this will i be able to renable it later and access the first restore point? How do i disable it? I right click my computer -->properties --> performance --> files systems --> troubleshooting --> Then i checked disable system restore. Is that all i must do? What is PC health? Is this related? Can i aslo disable this in MSConfig?

I read trevs post about this http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/18106.html
Will shutting this feature down really improve performance that much or is it better to leave it alone? Can i move it to a seperate partition or does it make a difference? You mentioned eliminating pchealth from startup. I assume its not related to system restore? is this correct? and does eliminating it from startup truly stop this function or is it started by something else while running windows. Another reason for stopping system restore is that it always boots my saves. anyway to make sure a restore point is always saved so that a new one created by windows doesnt boot it? TIA

Great link thanks. I see its related to system restores. I can use drive image software for backups and make one before installing anything new. the only one of pchealth that looks worth keeping is System File Protection. if i disable pchealth i lose this? Do i even need it? I read its description (SFPQ253571) but i think if a file gets replaced and this causes errors i can find the original file on the OS disk and replace it again. if the program starts buggin out after this i just dont use it anymore. Is this true? im just guessing.

get rid of system file protection as well. i have a little program called srp that gets rid of restore and a couple of other things completly and my system has been running reliably for 2 years without them. drive image for backup is the way to go.
