All of your saved files should still be there although you may have to re-install any programs that use them if they wern't installed 6 mounths ago.

If you are silly enough to go back 6 months, just remember that there is an option to "Undo Restore", because you will probably not be happy with the rollback.

Hi Sweet Tooth...

I tried using System Restore last week on the understanding of Microsft's reassurances that it can always be reversed.
When I tried, I received a mesage each time that the system could not be restored to historical date I had chosen. Following this I tried many dates and none of them could be restored.
Fine, I thought, until I found that not anly had many settings in the registry been altered, disabling some applications, but also some main application .exe files had been deleted!
Explatives and wasted time now under the bridge, I still occasionally find after effects from this disaster, which are always (justifiably or otherwise) followed by cursing of Microsoft.
I would advise researching this to the Nth degree before trying to use System Restore.
Also I am inclined to agree with the earlier advice that you probably will not be happy with the results anyway.. depending on why you want to go back to a historical point in time. The reason I did it (rather, tried) was because of a failed attempt to update my graphics driver which seems to have legft my system rather raggy.
Good luck
