i have a compaq computer with millenium and i just bought it recently. I recently transfered a lot of stuff from school to my computer, including about 2000 mp3's. Stuff was working fine after i did all this transfering. Anyways, one day it was working fine, then the next day i turned it on, it booted into 16 colors, and changing the colors and resolution back to normal doesnt help at all. Also, i had the infamous VMOUSE.VXD problem with my mouse, in which the file couldnt be found. I also am getting RUNDLL errors as well as KERNEL32.DLL errors, which of course arent good news to hear. Anyways, I havent done an actual system restore yet. Do you have to actually do a system backup to restore the system to a previous working condition, or can i do the system restore within ME??????? i know that compaq puts a lot of crap on including this service connection in which it update your computer daily. So basically with my scenario, i want to know if i can do a system restore to a previous state, but i dont want to loose any of the stuff that i got from school.

Any suggestions??

Go to Sustem Restore and see if you have any dates, don't put create a date yet hit restore to a previous date and see if there are some dates there if there are pick one that was good before the date it goofed up maybe back up on something or make a back up first, you may have had some conflict with putting on what you did, then if you restore to a previous state you may loose it or have the same problem, usually the restore is for before you have the problems, thus before you put your mps on. Sue and your restore usually starts automatically, I did not have to start mine.

i have another question. I see that win 98 and millenium are both known for missing some of these VXD files, such as VMOUSE.VXD. Now, I go online and i can find sites that have a suite of VXD files that are zipped up. But, these files are for 98. Can i use them for millenium?????
the files seem to be the same.

Thanks
