hi all.my system restore is not creating its own checkpoints.i can manually create a checkpoint and use the restore function. recently added avg virus protection.this is the only changes ive done.could this be related?i have a compaq 750 with 448 megs of ram.no other troubles.spybot and zone alarm firewall also running but tghese have been here way before this problem started.all settings are the same for system restore .i didnt tamper with space to use etc.any help will be appriciated

Sounds like the Restore folder got corrupted. This happens to many, especially if you run Norton products.
The fix is to delete and recreate the system restore folder. Here is how its done:
First, Do not disable system restore!
Reboot to DOS using your Startup disk and enter the following commands at the A:\> prompt.
ATTRIB -R -H -S C:\_RESTORE
(then press enter)DELTREE C:\_RESTORE
(then press enter)Reboot your computer, which will recreate the restore folder on startup.
Good Luck!
Note: To create a startup disk, if you don't have one:
Add/Remove programs > Startup Disk > follow the prompts.
You will need a clean formatted floppy.
Note 2: Please notice the underscore in the command c:\_
Many people don't and they type c:\RESTORE, which doesnt work.
