Comment:

one of the first things i do after i install windows ME is to disable system restore. it doesn't do me any good, so i disable it.

the problem is that everytime i put a new HDD in, system restore reenebles itself just like that. you probably noticed that too.

so, is there a solution to this? maybe something in registry from where i can repair this misbehaviour?

After you get "System Restore Remover Pro" and use it to get rid of System Restore, then get "Win RescueMe" and use that to restore to a earlier date.

It saved my butt a couple of times . To each his own, I did change the default setting for how much disk space it can consume . The default setting is 12%, that is to much space with todays large HD's ? Good Luck,Nick

G'day TheKid,

I had to use it a while ago to get Win ME out of trouble, it worked OK. The restorepoint/backups are only a bit over 1.4meg in size, so they don't take up much room. I run it every day and before installing anything. I would recommend this to everyone.

Thanx John. How does it compare to what it actually restores as opposed to Windows' system restore? Is it basically the same, just more reliable?

Thanx

I used for quite a while with Me and it worked great. After a while though, I decided to lean out my system a little and uninstalled it. I was never restoring back more than two days, and it's just about as easy to just use a bootdisk and restore one of the 5 registry backups. The one program I found that I won't run Me without is System Safe Gold:

I tried WinRescueXP on my XP partition, and the first time I tried to restore a backup, the system wouldn't boot and I had to reinstall. It could have been something else causing the problem, but I still couldn't recommend that program for XP users.
