Comment:

My system restore screen allows no restore point access. I click on a date earlier this month but it 'doesn't click'. I try to go back a month (in this case, November to October) but it clicks back to August, and August 7th is the ONLY restore point highlighted. Even this point is not accessible. How can I unstick this? Apparently my computer has created no restore points in the last 3 months.

Turn restore off , reboot and then turn it back on and then reboot again and see if you can then create restore points . Also make sure you have adequate HD space allocated for what restore is trying to use .

I have seen this problem.I found one thing that fixes it some times but you will loss all your restor points up untill now.If your having a problem and need to use restor right now I suggest reformating if gdg's suggestion dosnt work.First go to install/uninstall in the settings folder and delete system restore, reboot and reinstall it,REboot one more time and you should be fine.
good luck and happy hacking ;)

hello
if you cant restore rather than reformat as a first optoin. try reinstalling windows ontop of its self.
goto c:windows\options\cabs\setup
or just c:windows\cabs\setup
or if you have full install cd use its repair windows option

As gdg said: To reset System Restore:

System | Performance | File System | Troubleshooting and check "Disable System Restore", Apply and IMMEDIATELY reboot. This will flush your restore folder and erase all checkpoints, then:

System | Performance | File System |Troubleshooting and uncheck "Disable System Restore", Apply and again IMMEDIATELY reboot. This should now automatically create a new checkpoint immediately following the restart.

Finally adjust the space allocated to the restore folder, System | Performance | File System | Hard Disk and adjust the restore slider to your preferred setting.

To GDG,Wolfe, and MM...thanks, but I did exactly what you suggested, and no restore point comes up. I have the same problem. I allotted max space for restore also. And to wawadave, I setup windows again, but to no avail. Anything else I can try, other than restoring my entire system?

Thanks for all your efforts,,,,,,,Jim
