I tried to do a system restore but I don't think it restored correctly because now I can't use my IE, Windows Media Player and Outlook Express. I know my dial-up is working because I did a "ping" test. But since I can't use my IE. I can't upgrade anything. My IE says "..could not open search page" Plus my system restore has lost all previous restored points. So I can only go back to the day I did the "so called" restore point which is yesterday. Need help fast. I am using my sister's comp and she doesn't know about and I need to take it back before she finds out. Thanks....

Dear 2hayngirlz,
Did you tried any other browser? Plz try one.
Also check the Internte Options in IE.
I think it is some registry problem.
Plz wait other users to reply

Hi sreeprakashms
Well, the only browsers I have are Slimbrowser which doesn't work either. I had an MSN explorer but that one disappeared when I did the restore. There is no way of getting any other browser because I can't get online. :( BTW, thanks for replying, I need all the help I can get.

Go to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. See if there is an "Microsoft Internet Explorer ... and Internet Tools" line in the list of installed programs. If there is, click on it to select it. And then click the Add/Remove button at the bottom of the window. On the options window, select the "Repair Internet Explorer" option and click OK. When it is done reboot the system.

Hi JackG,
I tried repairing IE through Add/Remove programs. It says it can't repair because of some missing files or registry. Sorry I don't have a list of what it was. Thanks for the help though.

Anyone thinks I should just install XP home edition rather than stick with ME?

Dear 2hayngirlz,

Reinstall windows. if you have WinME CD or if you dont have, it will be in the windows/options/install folder.
Also remember, backup your important files into any other drive rather than C.
Also your motherboard, sound, and other drivers keep handy.
Normally it will take half an hour.

Two options available
1. Overwrite ME
Run setup and overwrite ME in ME.
2. Clean install
Create a boot disk, format C and install ME.

Inform us about the improvements.

I would like to say plz try any registry cleaning utility like Regcleaner, Tuneup utilities. Scan registry for problems. If it is not solved you have to reinstall ME.

Thank you
sree

before you reinstall windows, you may want to try going to add-remove programs, click on startup tab, and create and start-up disk. start you computer with the disk in the drive, use arrow keys to choose minimal start. When it gets to the "a" prompt, type c: this will give you the c prompt. Type scandisk/all to run scandisk, fix any problems it finds. Then type scanreg/restore, and try to choose a backup registry that dates before you problems

It's me again. I ended up reinstalling ME, which I had no prob doing. But now it says that the driver for my dial up isnt working and I have to uninstall and reinstall. I am looking in other messages on how to do that, unless anyone out there knows it and can tell me in simple terms. :) Thanks!

it sounds like you lost the driver for your modem. go to control panel- system-device manager, and click on the + next to modems. does it list your modem? is there a yellow ! listed?

Dear 2hayngirlz,

We have to find out it is a hardware or software problem. Find any program is locking your IE.
Plz upgrade your OS. If the problem still persists, there is something wrong.

Call a technician, he can help you.
