I have an Emachine with XP and just a few days ago, a virus wiped out 1 user setting on there. I thought I could use "system restore" to revert to previous good setting. The computer won't run anymore. We used the acompanied Restore CD and it didn't work.
We used the "easy recovery" software and tried to access the C drive, so we can retrieve important files. But C drive is not there anymore, the virtual drive becomes C drive, does that mean C drive and data are wiped clean? if not, how do I restore it? creating a new C drive (how) so that virtual drive becomes D?
Thanks for all your help.

This is the windows me forum. You should try posting this question in the XP forum. Unless someone here owns or has worked on a similar computer you might not get much help from the XP forum.
First thing you should do is contact Emachine tech support. They will know exactly what steps to take to get your system reinstalled. Make sure to mention the data you wish to recover when you get hold of a tech.Run antivirus software and make frequent backups of your data in the future.

you could download delpart
run it from a bootable dos floppy
such as dr dos from bootdisk.com
then fdisk and format with a windows startup disk, then run your restore disk.write protect the floppy before using it so you don't reinfect your pc.

sounds exactly like a problem I had with an e-machines system running win ME. I solved the problem at long last by purchasing a new hard drive. I tried fdisk/mbr;;format..the whole nine yards with no luck. Tech support
was not that helpful which made me nore miserable...good luck
