I am woking on this 98mebox for a friend. I have eleminated all the viruses according to AVG and ad/ware but the system folder is still poping up open when I start the machine. Ok, I checked the links here and found one similar problem. the suggestions was to check the win.ini file. I did and there is nothing following the run= Also I saw another posting on google. Apparently the same os and problem. This lady listed her hijackthis log and was told to remove a file. It worked for her but I do not have that file listed in my log. Thanks in advance for help.

Look in MSCONFIG - START UP. You will see the System or System32 box is checked. Remove the check, apply - OK.
This problem comes after you have the DownLoad.Trojan Virus (and probably others).
Post back if this works (or does not work) for you.

you may have to run "hijack this" and do a search for your problem in the forum (sorry, dont have a link handy) and look for the entry that you need to delete after you run "hijack this"
