OS: WinME
CPU/Ram: 8GB/500
Model/Manufacturer: Compaq
Comment:
Is it possible to download/acquire SFC as a single integrated tool without having to extract the individual files from Win98? I want to run the file checker utility in ME without having to install each indivdual SFC file into the Windows\System folder!

That does not make a great deal of sense - care to rephrase? Is it your intention to try and use SFC from WinME?

WinME doesn't use SFC, but System File Protection (files are extracted via msconfig)

Yes, it is my intention to use SFC in ME. SFC, however, is not available in ME, therefore you have to obtain and install the individual files. The half dozen or so individual files can be obtained from W98 and then have to be individually installed in ME - all six of them. My question, again, is: can SFC be obtained and installed as a bundled application without having to install the individual files?

If adding SFC to WinME was feasible, don't you think someone would have devised a way to do it a LONG time ago?

SFC would have to be written around the operating system for which it was intended. The file extract feature, for example, is obviously programmed to know where files are located, which varies from system to system.

I agree with not importing files and registry entries from W98 because it might well wreck ME. SFC didn't always get things right on 9x either (see my collation etc):
SFC CAN GET IT WRONG

It's a fool's errand, as there is no compelling need or incentive to use SFC in WinME

In ME, file extraction from the CABs is done via msconfig

System File Protection monitors and replaces improperly altered or deleted files in real time, rendering Win9x SFC both obsolete & unnecessary
